FASD Statewide Initiative

FASD Statewide InitiativeIn 2004, the Minnesota Organization on Fetal Alcohol Syndrome launched the FASD Statewide Initiative as a result of legislation passed by the Minnesota legislature. This legislation allowed the Minnesota Department of Health to create a contract with MOFAS to develop a statewide program that includes FASD prevention and intervention services and programs.

Through community grants, professional education, public awareness and diagnostic services, MOFAS is working to reach individuals affected by FASD, their families and caregivers, and providers across Minnesota.

Initiative Details

During the spring of 2004, the Minnesota legislature appropriated a transfer of funds from the Commissioner of Health to a statewide organization that focuses solely on prevention of and intervention with FASD (Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorders). In September 2004 a sole source contract was signed between MOFAS (Minnesota Organization on Fetal Alcohol Syndrome) and the MDH (Minnesota Department of Health).

The scope of work includes prevention and intervention services and programs, including, but not limited to, community grants, professional education, public awareness, and diagnosis.

For information on the objectives and progress of the FASD Statewide Initiative, read our Year 4 Annual Report to the State of Minnesota.
