Each FRC has their own FASD story and journey, and knows many of the challenges that you may be facing. Their goal is to reach out to families in their region of MN with encouragement and provide FASD support, to connect those impacted through social and educational activities, and help be the voice for the FASD community by coordinating advocates around public policy matters.

Jeff and Nancy are raising six kids ranging from 7 to 25 years old. Their 19 year old daughter and 17 year old son joined their family as infants through adoption and were diagnosed with FASD in early elementary school. They enjoy being active in the community and with MOFAS, helping others through the challenges of parenting children with FASD and other mental health disorders.
Larene Broome- East Metro
Ramsey, Washington, and Partial Dakota Counties (excluding Burnsville and Lakeville)
Larene lives in Ramsey County with her husband Jerry. Between the two of them, they have four children ranging in age 10-24, along with three grandchildren. Larene has been committed to helping others in the community for about 10 years in various ways. She serves families who have been impacted by systems i.e. welfare systems, criminal systems and educational systems. Larene grew up with an older sibling who has an FASD with many current struggles in life as an adult. She wears many different hats, but they are all around community. Larene is very compassionate about families in need of support.
Pam Chmielewski – Central Area
Benton, Kanabec, Mille Lacs, Morrison, Sherburne, Stearns and Todd counties
Pam and her husband Rob have been married for 25 years and live in Foley, MN with their daughter, 15 and son, 11. When they adopted their daughter, they were told she was at risk for having an FASD. At that time they knew nothing about it. “Giving up is not an option. Despite our struggles and daily frustrations, we know that as parents of this lovable, warm hearted girl, she deserves much more.”
Barb Clark – Hennepin & Partial Dakota Counties (Burnsville and Lakeville)
Barb and her husband Michael live in North Minneapolis raising four preteen and teenage children, the oldest and youngest of which are affected by prenatal alcohol exposure. Barb has been actively involved in educating medical, social service and education professionals about FASD for several years. She enjoys connecting and learning with other parents raising children affected by an FASD.
Joanne Coffin-Langdon - Northeast Area
Aitkin, Carlton, Cook, Itasca, Koochiching, Lake, Pine and St. Louis counties
Joanne and her wife live in Duluth, MN where she is a professor at UMD in the department of education. They are busy parents with eight children ranging from 5-26 years old. Five of their children were adopted out of foster care, here in Minnesota, four have an FASD. Raising her family has been the greatest reward and her greatest challenge! Joanne can’t wait to connect with other families who have children with FASD! “This will be a wonderful journey of exchanging information and helping each other.”
Melissa Fredin – Southeast Area
Dodge, Faribault, Fillmore, Freeborn, Goodhue, Houston LeSueur, Mower, Olmstead, Rice, Steele, Wabasha, Waseca and Winona counties
Melissa and her husband David keep very busy in their small community north of Rochester with four active children, three of whom have been confirmed to have prenatal alcohol exposure. They are also foster parents and very active in the community, supporting other families on the FASD journey.
Sandy Hruby - Southwest Area and Southwest Metro
Blue Earth, Brown, Carver, Cottonwood, Jackson, Kandiyohi, Lincoln, Lyon, Martin, McLeod, Meeker, Murray, Nicollet, Nobles, Pipestone, Redwood, Renville, Rock, Scott, Sibley, Watonwan, Wright and Yellow Medicine counties
Sandy and Denny are loving parents to three adoptive children who have been diagnosed with several disorders, including FAS. They all live active lives with lots of extracurriculars! Sandy knows the systems well and her hope is to help others who struggle to get what their children need to be successful in life.
Carolyn Strnad - Western Area
Becker, Big Stone, Chippewa, Clay, Douglas, Grant, Lac Qui Parle, Mahnomen, Norman, Otter Tail, Pope, Stevens, Swift, Traverse, Wilkin and counties
Carolyn and her husband Robert opened their doors over twenty years ago to provide foster care, and ended up adopting three little bundles of joy affected by FAS on top of their four biological children! For the past ten years, Carolyn has been a systems advocate, giving families a voice where policies and programs are decided.
Mary Weaver - Northwest Area
Beltrami, Cass, Clearwater, Crow Wing, Hubbard, Kittson, Lake of the Woods, Marshall, Pennington, Polk, Red Lake, Roseau and Wadena counties

Mary and her husband Mike are the parents of six children, ranging in age from 5 to 28. As an adoptee as well as an adoptive parent, Mary is familiar with the challenges and joys of the adoption triad. Mary is an advocate for her family and hopes her experiences will help support other families affected by FASD and other childhood trauma.
