General Information

            Minnesota Children with Special Health Needs has developed a series of health condition fact sheets    for some of the most common birth defects. The fact sheets provide information such as a general description of the condition, prevalence, common associated conditions, short and long-term treatment and outcomes, common complications and implications for children's development.

Minnesota Education Advocacy

    The website for Arc Minnesota, which provides advocacy and support for people with developmental disabilities and their families. Also available to download is the Arc's Family Resource Guide, which is written for families raising children with mental retardation and related developmental disabilities. It tells about benefits, supports and services that might help families and individuals.

    The website for Children's Home Society & Family Services. They have a Learning Disabilities Program that promotes school success among children with learning challenges in grades k-12. Is free and confidential. Contact: Renee Brecken

    The website for the Minnesota Disability Law Center provides free civil legal assistance to individuals with disabilities on legal issues that are related to their disabilities.

    The website for the School Law Center, LLC, which specializes in legal advocacy on behalf of students in a variety of civil rights areas. Contact: Amy Goetz.

    The website for the Minnesota Prevention Resource Center, where they provide information services, publications and videos, tech nical assistance, learning opportunities, and newsletters to help carry out successful prevention programs in individual's communities.

Minnesota Support Groups

    The website for MN ASAP (Minnesota Adoption Support and Preservation), has useful information on adoption, and also has Parent Liaisons that are available to help families with individual support.

Miscellaneous

    The website for Confidence Learning Center, often referred to as Camp Confidence, which is a year-round center for persons with developmental disabilities. They specialize in recreation and outdoor education, and the Confidence Learning Center serves persons of all ages and abilities.

    The website for REM inc. They provide residential services, in-home supports and independent living and respite and crisis services.
